Performing arts centre report released this week

KAMLOOPS – Six months after a $233,000 study looking at the hows, whys and whats of a potential performing arts centre, the public will finally get a peek at the results.

The preliminary business case will be presented by the Performing Arts Centre Committee on Thursday, April 9. The work done to date, including what was heard from the community during consultations, a potential footprint, location and site selection and a cost overview based, will be presented.

This feasibility report will be presented at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Parkside Lounge at the Interior Savings Centre. Feedback will be accepted at a follow up meeting to be held at Interior Savings Centre from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 18, so that the report can be refined before further public engagement sessions and a possible referendum.

The City began engaging the public in discussions about a performing arts centre in 2002, and by last year, potential locations included Hotel 541, the former Kamloops Daily News building and the Thompson Rivers University campus.
