Kelowna hotel set to almost double in size

The Super 8 hotel in Kelowna has applied to the city to add a new building with 48 rooms.

That will almost double the number of rooms from the existing 62.

The five-storey building will have 15 rooms on four of its floors but only three larger rooms on the fifth floor, according to plans submitted to the City of Kelowna.

Formally known as Super 8 by Wyndham, the hotel is at 2592 Highway 97 North at Commerce Avenue, just past Highway 33.

According to B.C. Assessments, the original hotel was built in 1981.

The Super 8 chain has more than 2,600 hotels on three continents, including more than 1,700 in North America, according to Entrepreneur.com.
