Blue Mountain wildfire southwest of Penticton is 50 hectares
The Okanagan sky changed from blue to orange last night due to a new wildfire near Blue Mountain to the southwest of Penticton.
The fire was discovered yesterday, Sept. 2 and is estimated to be 50 hectares in size, according to B.C. Wildfire. It has grown from 10 hectares yesterday. Human activity is the suspected cause.
The Blue Mountain fire is approximately 15 kilometres north of the Keremeos Creek wildfire. Keremeos Creek has been classified as held, however a change in weather yesterday caused it to grow along the southwest side and produced smoke.
The sky over the Okanagan is slightly hazy this morning but mostly clear of smoke.
