Wildfires prompt smoky skies warning across B.C. Interior

Several large wildfires burning in B.C., and south of the border in Washington state and Oregon, are impacted the air quality in a huge swath of the B.C. Interior including Kamloops and the Okanagan.

The B.C. Ministry of Environment has issued a smoky skies bulletin today, Sept. 11, from Vancouver Island through the Lower Mainland, into the southern Interior and all the way to the Alberta border.

The bulletin warns residents that widespread smoke is impacting the regions and may get worse if fire activity increases. There may be even thicker smoke at higher elevations.

“There are ongoing smoke impacts in areas near Hudson’s Hope and Fort St. John due to the Battleship Mountain wildfire, and conditions may worsen in the southern Williston Lake area later today,” the bulletin reads.
