UPDATE: Fireworks seized in false Kamloops gunshot report
Students are free to leave two Kamloops schools after police seized fireworks in the area.
Brocklehurt residents called Kamloops RCMP to report "gunshot-like bangs" in the area around 1:45 p.m. today, Sept. 12, according to Kamloops RCMP.
Brocklehurst Middle School and Kay Bingham Elementary School were placed on "hold and secure" while police were in the area.
“While officers were responding to the area, they heard fireworks and received further reports of the loud bangs,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn of Kamloops RCMP said in a news release. “A person was located nearby and a number of fireworks were seized as part of the investigation.”
School District 73 later lifted the hold and secure orders.
