Vernon couple wins $5.8M

VERNON – A Vernon couple officially received their part of the $35 million Lotto 6/49 grand prize Tuesday afternoon, walking away with $5.8 million and a more relaxed outlook on life.

Albert and Margaret Greening had one of six winning tickets in the April 1 draw, the other five were purchased in Ontario and Quebec.

The couple has been playing the lottery for 20 years and still aren’t sure what they will do with their winnings, other than buying a new house, taking a trip to visit family and sharing their new fortune with their kids.

“I was checking the numbers on the computer and realized we had won big,” Margaret said. “I dragged him back to the living room to show him the results, but it still doesn’t feel real.”

The couple says that, except for their wedding day, they can’t imagine a more exciting or life-changing event.

“This is going to completely change our lives,” Albert added. “It’s hard living on a pension so this will allow us to relax, not worry about keeping a budget and potentially buy a home in Vernon.”
