Canada’s first astronaut lands in the Okanagan

VERNON – A Liberal MP and former astronaut travels to the Okanagan this week.

Marc Garneau, the first Canadian to fly in space, will be in Vernon and Kelowna Thursday.

He gives a talk about science and technology at the Okanagan Science Centre in Vernon at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1:45 p.m.) and moves on to Kelowna’s Eldorado Hotel in Kelowna at 4 p.m. to speak on the same topic.

Later that evening at 7 p.m. he discusses Veterans Affairs, also at the Eldorado Hotel.

Garneau is the Liberal critic for foreign affairs, international trade, and the Francophonie. He was elected as MP for Westmount-Ville-Marie in 2008 and reelected in 2011.

In 2003, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour.
