Kelowna transit killer back in custody again

The citizens of Kelowna helped the RCMP track down a notorious criminal.

On Oct. 6, local police appealed to the public to locate 32-year-old Tyler Jack Newton, who is known for stabbing a stranger to death in 2014 in an unprovoked attack on Kelowna transit bus.

Multiple calls to police helped officers find him in downtown Kelowna, according to a release from Oct. 7. He is due in court later today.

“This was an excellent example of the Kelowna RCMP Members, local media and the public working together to locate and ultimately arrest this dangerous repeat offender,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

“Thank you to citizens and callers who took the correct action by calling the Kelowna RCMP and not approaching this individual.”
