Young Tk’emlups actor featured in film ‘Bones of Crows’

A young Tk'emlups actor landed a role in a film that kicked off the Vancouver International Film Festival this fall.

Ten-year-old Tyler Peters played "Young Adam" in the film Bones of Crows, which included filming locations in Kamloops and the surrounding region.

Peters is a Tk'emlups te Secwepemc band member and his character includes scenes in both the film and the upcoming CBC mini-series of the same name, according to a social media post from the Band.

The Bones of Crows film, directed by Dene/Metis filmmaker Marie Clements, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last month before kicking off events at the Vancouver festival weeks later.

The film is centred around a Cree woman who survives the Indian residential school system before she's later sent to World War II, haunted by trauma along the way.

The film received a standing ovation at the Vancouver film festival, according to the Tk'emlups social media post.

A theatrical release is expected later this year, while the mini series will premiere on CBC in 2023.

Peters will be featured in the five-part story, which spans more than a hundred years and multiple generations, centering around its central character, Aline Spears.

Peters continues to audition for film and TV roles with the help of his agent in Vancouver, according to the Tk'emlups social media post.
