Kamloops suspect nabbed for theft and assault

A Kamloops man is in custody after allegedly stealing from a store and assaulting two people who gave chase.

The police were notified at around 2 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 19, that two people had been assaulted after they chased a theft suspect out of a store in the 300 block of Tranquille Road, according to an RCMP press release. RCMP do not identify the business.

“An officer observed an image of the suspect, then conducted patrols in the area,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “Shortly after on the 100 block of Yew Street the officer located a bike matching the description of the one used by the suspect, followed by the suspect nearby.”

A 36-year-old Kamloops man has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of theft under $5,000 and was scheduled to appear in court today, Oct. 20.
