Two dangerous men in speeding Jaguar arrested: Kelowna RCMP
Suspicious behaviour in the early hours this morning led Kelowna RCMP to arrest of two men.
The incident started when an RCMP officer spotted a pickup truck stopped in the middle of Bernard Avenue in Kelowna blocking traffic at around 2:35 a.m. today, Oct. 21, according to an RCMP media release. A man was standing in the roadway talking to the female driver.
The truck drove away and the man got into the driver’s seat of a Jaguar with an Ontario license plate and drove away without headlights.
The officer followed in an unmarked car as the Jaguar sped across the Bennett bridge over the speed limit and continued to a driveway on Nancee Way in West Kelowna.
“The officer activated his emergency equipment,” the release read. “The male driver and an additional male passenger quickly exited the vehicle and became verbally combative with the officer who then requested more officers to assist. After gaining control of the situation the driver was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.”
A check of the passenger found he was from Montreal and wanted on a Canada-wide parole suspension warrant for firearm offences.A further search found several out-of-province driver’s licenses not belonging to either men and a number of cellphones.
The vehicle was impounded and both men were taken to Kelowna jail cells.
“This is an on-going and complicated investigation, involving several jurisdictions,” the release read.
Further charges against the driver are being considered.
“If it was not for the keen eye of the Kelowna RCMP officer and his ability to keep calm in a highly volatile situation with two dangerous individuals, the outcome could have been different,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer for the Kelowna RCMP, said in the release.
