B.C. nurse with history of infractions suspended for 4 months

A B.C. nurse with a history of infractions has been suspended for four months for giving out the wrong medications to a patient and then lying about it.

According to a Nov. 3 B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, Surrey-based registered nurse Bionic Nicolas signed a consent agreement admitting to the "medication error."

The decision says the "medication error" involves several drugs and took place in April 2022.

Following the error, Nicolas was then "dishonest" with his employer, a colleague, and the patient about what happened.

According to the College this is not the first time Nicolas has been in trouble with the regulator.

In 2019 he was suspended for a week for working overtime while under investigation. He was put on conditions for six months and ordered to complete several courses.

In 2020 he failed to complete the required chemotherapy certification for a unit he was already working on and was placed on a twelve-month period of mentorship. In this case, Nicolas was "rude and unprofessional" when talking to his employer.

In the recent decision, Nicolas agreed to a four-month suspension and will be under supervision for two years.

He has also been barred from being the sole nurse on duty, working overtime, or supervising students or staff for two years.

Nicolas was ordered to take counselling sessions regarding truthfulness and accountability.

The nursing college says it's satisfied that the terms will protect the public, although it made the same statements after Nicolas' last two infractions.

No other details were given in the decision.

In 2020 Nicolas earned $96,000 working for the Fraser Health Authority.
