One game will decide if Thompson Rivers women’s soccer team advances to nationals

Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team is fighting to represent Kamloops at the U SPORTS National Championship and it all comes down to one game tonight.

In the Canada West semifinals division, the team recently lost 2-1 to Trinity Western Spartans, and is now competing for a bronze medal. This is the first time in the program's history the team has advanced this far.

In the loss to the Spartans, the game-winning goal came after 112 minutes of play during “a night of wild weather and fierce action,” according to a WolfPack press release.

"We just keep showing our heart and character but ultimately came up a little bit short," WolfPack head coach Mark Pennington said in the release.

"We celebrated a 0-0 tie with Trinity earlier in the season talking about it being one of the most monumental results in program history and we've tied them again 1-1 in regulation. I'm really proud of the heart that the group showed again."

If the WolfPack wins the game Nov. 5 against the Calgary Dinos, in addition to winning bronze in the tournament, the team will qualify to play in the national championship, which happens next week in Laval, Quebec.

The game happens at 5 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Thunderbird Stadium.
