Pedestrian struck and killed by car in West Kelowna

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car late last week in West Kelowna.

West Kelowna RCMP officers received a call from the B.C. Ambulance Service at roughly 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, after a man was hit by a green 2005 Chrysler 300 on Scotstown Road at Grenada Crescent, according to an RCMP press release. 

An off-duty nurse was first on the scene and administered CPR before an ambulance arrived. The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, was cooperative and told police he was traveling eastbound on Scotstown Road toward Grenada Crescent at approximately 20 to 25 km/h when he hit the man on the passenger side of his car. The driver reported that he didn't see the pedestrian as he was dressed in dark clothing and in an area where there wasn’t a street light.

Witnesses also told police similar information about the victim’s dark clothes and the difficulties seeing him.

Const. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer with the RCMP, said the investigation is ongoing and the family of the man has been notified by officers.

“Police encourage all drivers and pedestrians to take extra precaution when out after dark during this time of the year,” he said in the press release.
