Man with gunshot wound taken into custody

After responding to a report of a home invasion on Pearson Road in Kelowna, RCMP have shifted the focus of their investigation to the residents who made the call.

Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Wade Seversen says the 911 call Mounties responded to stated several people were trying to break into the garage of the house located in the 200 block of Pearson Road. When police arrived they found a 23-year-old man with a non-life threatening gunshot injury to his hand.

For reasons not disclosed, police questioned the legitimacy of the complaint and instead took the injured man into custody. He was later released pending further investigation. A pistol was seized from the house.

The RCMP are careful to note the incident was not a random act of violence and do not believe it was gang related.

More information may be released as it becomes available.
