
Man stabbed multiple times while sitting in his vehicle in downtown Penticton
A 61-year-old man was stabbed while sitting in his vehicle in downtown Penticton.
Police were called to the 300-block of Martin Street at 5:11 p.m. last night, according to an RCMP news release.
A witness told police the victim was sitting in his vehicle when a man approached, stabbed him multiple times and then fled on foot.
Police set up a containment around the area and called on the assistance of a police service dog but were not able to locate the suspect.
The victim is known to police, according to the release.
He was taken to the hospital before an ambulance showed up. Police report he is in stable condition and expected to survive.
The attack was targeted, police believe, and the public is not at risk.
“We don’t believe there is any risk to the general public and that this is an isolated incident. Our officers spent the night investigating, and will continue to gather evidence,” Cpl. Mike Field said in a news release.
“As this incident took place in a busy area with many businesses, we are asking anyone who might have seen anything that would further the investigation to please contact the Penticton RCMP.”
Police are canvassing nearby businesses for surveillance video.
