TRENDING NOW: Ovechkin’s opponents line up to shake his hand after breaking Gordie Howe’s record

Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin scored his 801st and 802nd career goals in the NHL last night, making him the second-highest goal scorer in league history.

It’s not common for NHL players to shake hands with the other team, aside from when one has been eliminated in a playoff series. But last night, Dec. 23, was a historical moment that saw the Winnipeg Jets commend his accomplishment one-by-one.

Many hockey fans are excited to watch and see if the 37-year-old Russian will be able to beat Gretzky’s record of 894.
