Via Rail is not chugging along in Eastern Canada on Christmas Eve
Via Rail has cancelled all of its Christmas Eve trains along the most populated corridor in Canada.
Two dozen trains were cancelled along the Quebec City – Windsor Corridor, according to Via’s website. The railway is blaming “extreme weather conditions and resulting consequences.”
At least one train appears to have gotten stuck overnight.
“We’re approaching hour 17,” stranded passenger Eric Herrington said on Twitter.
“Pregnant women are starving without food or water. People are jumping off of your train and walking through snow because you’ve done nothing. Ambulances are coming. This isn’t the hunger games.”
Other passengers are unable to get in touch with loved ones who boarded the trains in Eastern Canada yesterday.
Has anyone on #train55 seen our nonna? Her name is Aurora and she boarded in Belleville last night. Please keep your eye out and update us if you spot her on the stalled train. We haven’t been able to get any updates from @via_rail in 18 hours @OPP_News @CTVNews pic.twitter.com/h6anh7sGNY

@VIA_Rail Chaos is brewing on train 55. Some passengers have gone rogue and started jumping off the train. Via staff are crying. Many people are calling 911. This needs immediate de-escalation.
