Harry Potter on trial during Penticton Law Week event

PENTICTON – Penticton middle and high school students have a date in Penticton courthouse tomorrow.

They will be there with members of the Provincial Crown Counsel and those of the local bar to conduct two mock trials as part of Law Week, Friday, April 17.

The first trial, beginning at 10 a.m., will have Harry Potter prosecuted for culpable homicide. He is charged with second degree murder for his involvement in the death of an instructor at Hogwarts Academy.

The second trial, beginning at 1 p.m., involves Sneezy the Wolf who is charged with huffing and puffing and blowing down the Three Little Pigs houses.

The trials both take place at the Penticton Courthouse at 100 Main St. Further directions will be provided through signage at the courthouse.

Law Week is an annual national event that celebrates the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The event profiles the legal profession and provides an opportunity to better inform the public about the role lawyers and the judiciary serve in guaranteeing an open, independent and unbiased judicial system.

Law Week is organized through a partnership involving the B.C. Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia, the Law Foundation of British Columbia, the Law Society of British Columbia, and the Vancouver Bar Association.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
