Pedestrian killed in highway collision
CACHE CREEK – RCMP are still investigating the cause of a collision that left one pedestrian dead on Highway 1 outside of Cache Creek this past weekend.
Ashcroft RCMP Sgt. Michel Grondin said around 5:10 a.m. Saturday, April 11, police attended the scene where a 45-year-old man died after being struck by a pickup truck travelling towards Kamloops.
The pedestrian was from Fraser Lake, a northern community by Burns Lake, between Prince George and Prince Rupert.
“It appears he was hitchhiking,” Grondin said. “(The driver) did stop at the scene and was cooperative."
Police are not suspecting impaired driving to be a cause of the incident.
Investigators took the vehicle into custody for a mechanical inspection. Grenadine said first responders turned the investigation over to Central Interior Traffic Services.
