Joel Edmundson, 19, was signed to a three-year entry level contact this week by the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League.
Drafted by the Blues in the second round – 46th overall – of the 2011 NHL Draft the Brandon, Man. Native has played a total of 188 games in the Western Hockey League earning a total of 68 points and 319 penalty minutes.
Edmundson started the season with the Moose Jaw Warriors, playing 29 games and earning eight points, a plus-minus of -11 and 70 penalty minutes. The Kamloops Blazers acquired the defenseman in a multi-player trade first week of December and in 32 games with the team has put up 17 points, a plus-minus of +11 and 63 penalty minutes.
Edmundson – who began skating at the age of four – registered a shot at 98 miles-per-hour during a hardest shot competition in Moose Jaw and is considered a physical two-way defenseman by Blazers general manager Craig Bonner, who said at the time of acquisition that he would “make us a harder team to play against, he will help solidify our defense.”
