Woman thrown 40 feet in hit-and-run

KELOWNA – A 27-year-old Kelowna woman was hit with so much force by a pickup truck Thursday night she was blown out of her shoes.

RCMP say the woman was walking in the crosswalk on Harvey Avenue at Ethel Street when she was hit by a Dodge pickup travelling in the HOV lane.

The driver didn’t stop and was was followed by a witness.

A stop sign and a couple of vehicles were hit before the suspect was blocked in on Gagnon Place and the keys removed from the ignition of the truck.

Police say the victim suffered relatively minor injuries considering she was thrown 40 feet through the air. She was taken to Kelowna General, treated and released.

The driver of the pick-up provided a breath sample that was twice the legal limit, according to RCMP.

A 69-year-old Kelowna man faces an impaired driving charge.
