KELOWNA – If they take the time to look up when they are making a mad dash for the luggage area at the Kelowna International Airport, the roughly 750,000 visitors a year will see a giant mural.
The installation is called Our Stories and is a graphic illustration of the seven faculties at UBC Okanagan.
The mural, developed by UBC designer Margo Yacheshyn, is 100 feet long and six feet high. It’s on the wall in pedestrian way that connects the arrival gates to the airport terminal.
Our Stories features photo arrays of exceptional students from the university and tells their stories.
“Storytelling and artistic expression are vital ways to communicate achievements and cultural values and to provided a sense of place and history,” associate dean of UBC’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies said in a media release.
“They (travellers) might never see our university, but they will see this representation and they’ll understand what’s going on just across the road at the UBCO campus.”
