Screams deter would-be robber

KAMLOOPS — A woman's screams warded off an armed man who tried to rob her Sunday evening.

The woman was talking on her phone while waiting for the bus on Columbia Avenue near Greenstone Drive around 7 p.m. on Mother’s Day when a man with a knife demanded she hand over her purse and phone. The man grabbed for them but the woman hung on and screamed for help.

The man eventually gave up and ran down the street after the unsuccessful robbery, leaving the woman shaken but uninjured.

The victim managed to flag down an officer and the police then flooded the area and attempted to track down the man with the help of a police dog.

Police are still looking for the suspect, described as a tall and thin Caucasian man wearing sunglasses, jeans and a backpack.
