UVA president condemns reported sexual assault of student
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia’s president is condemning the reported sexual assault of a student.
Charlottesville police say they responded to a reported sexual assault early Saturday morning. According to police, the female victim was approached from behind by a suspect with a knife, pulled from the sidewalk and assaulted.
President Teresa A. Sullivan spoke about the assault during remarks Sunday evening at the opening convocation and honour induction, a mandatory event for first-year and transfer students.
According to The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/2bbCzNX ), Sullivan said of the assault: “We condemn it and we will not tolerate it.” She also said that there is “no place for it here” or for “violence of any kind.”
Classes at the school begin Tuesday.
