The City of Kelowna’s NeighbourWoods trees sold out in record time – after only four days. More than 450 trees will begin improving air quality and energy conservation at their new homes, after they are picked up on Saturday, April 25.

“It was great to see the overwhelming support for the program,” said Andrew Hunsberger, Urban Forest Health Technician. “We even expanded this year’s program by 50 trees, given the high interest.”

NeighbourWoods is part of the City’s strategy to grow Kelowna’s urban canopy. Since 2010, residents have purchased more than 2,100 discounted trees to plant on their properties.

Location: Mission Recreation Park Arboretum, 4105 Gordon Drive (enter off Gordon and Lequime)

Even residents who were not able to purchase a tree this year are encouraged to attend Saturday’s event, where tree planting demonstrations will take place every hour of the event. City staff will also be on hand to answer questions about gardening, as well as tree health and maintenance.

After 2 p.m., trees that have not been picked up will become available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis as the City does not have a waitlist. There is also no waitlist for future events. The program is restricted to Kelowna residents and has a limit of one tree per household.
