Window smashed at Conservative campaign office

The B.C. Conservatives are reporting vandalism to their Vernon-Monashee campaign office and election signs.

Local candidate Scott Anderson says a window was smashed at his 31 Avenue office early Thursday morning.

Anderson says no injuries occurred and nothing was stolen.

"We've had trouble with vandalized signs in rural areas of the riding, "Anderson says. "But this is the first time our office has been attacked."

The window incident has been reported to the local RCMP detachment, and Anderson says no arrests have been made.

"When there's a race as close as the one between the NDP and the Conservatives in Vernon-Monashee, it's not surprising that we're seen as a threat," Anderson says.  "It's unfortunate that some people feel property damage is more effective than democracy."

In addition to the smashed window, Anderson says all of the B.C. Conservative signs between Lumby and Cherryville have been smashed or completely removed by what the RCMP describe as a shirtless man wielding a baseball bat.

Anderson says RCMP report they have a person of interest in connection with the incident.
