Reno-Tahoe tourism boss target of misconduct investigation
RENO, Nev. – The top tourism boss for Reno-Tahoe is being investigated for unspecified allegations of misconduct.
An attorney for the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority confirmed Tuesday that President and CEO Phil DeLone is the subject of an ongoing personnel investigation.
RSCVA attorney Benjamin Kennedy acknowledged the probe in response to a public records request submitted by the Reno Gazette Journal.
Kennedy declined to provide any details about the nature of the inquiry.
He says releasing the information would jeopardize the integrity of the investigation and potentially impact the candour of multiple witnesses who have yet to be interviewed. He says any records related to the investigation are exempt from disclosure under Nevada law.
DeLone was hired as the new RSCVA CEO in a 5-3 board vote in November 2016. The former head of Safari Club International was brought in to bring stability to an organization that was previously described as dysfunctional by several of its own board members after it went through several CEOs.
DeLone’s predecessor Chris Baum was fired without cause in 2015.
