Renaissance focus of New Hampshire museum exhibit

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Currier Museum of Art is diving into the hidden symbols of the 500-year-old Florence Renaissance.

The Manchester museum on Saturday is hosting an academic symposium on the Renaissance’s social, political and spiritual context and the 16th century transformation of Italian sculpture.

The museum’s exhibit is centred on the recently discovered sculpture John the Baptist. Giovan Montorsoli, one of Michelangelo’s most gifted students, created the previously unknown sculpture.

The museum on Sunday will host a concert of Florentine songs and virtuoso instrumental works. The concert will draw from the poetry of Machiavelli and the songbooks of courtly singers.
