ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The body of a kayaker who went missing during a Memorial Day trip has been found in a New Jersey reservoir.
State police say Michael Vecchiarella’s body was discovered in the Splitrock Reservoir in Rockaway Township on Friday and was removed shortly after. Further details on how the body was found were not disclosed Monday.
The cause of the 55-year-old Totowa (TOH’-tuh-wah) man’s death has not been determined. The man had been reported missing after his kayak overturned in the reservoir in Morris County on May 28.
The 625-acre (250-hectare) reservoir is surrounded by about 1,500 acres (600 hectares) of woods, straddling the border of Kinnelon (KIN’-eh-lon) and Rockaway Township.
