Lumby gets prepared for flooding

LUMBY – Efforts are underway to protect the Village of Lumby from possible flooding.

Next week, 20 wildland firefighters will help assemble an emergency stockpile of sandbags for rapid deployment in the event of a flood threat, according to a release from the Village.

The measure is a cooperative effort between Emergency Management B.C., the Ministry of Forests, and Natural Resource Operations Wildfire Management Branch.

The firefighters will be in the community on Monday, April 27 and Tueday, April 28 primarily in the area of the Lumby Curling Club and behind the municipal office.

The Village noted the resource will make the community better prepared, which increases public safety and helps minimize risk of damage to critical public and private property in the event of flooding.

In the past, the Village has seen major flooding in both downtown and outlying areas.
