Canada’s Bouchard gets first grass-court win of season at Mallorca Open

MALLORCA, Spain – Eugenie Bouchard won her first match of the grass-court season, beating Danka Kovinic 6-3, 7-5 Tuesday in the first round of the Mallorca Open.

Bouchard, the eighth seed form Montreal, fired six aces past her Montenegrin opponent and broke Kovinic three times on 11 chances.

Next up for Bouchard is Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova, who blew past Switzerland’s Stefanie Voegele 6-0, 6-2 in the opening round.

Bouchard defeated Sevastova 5-7 6-3 7-6 (4) in the opening round of the Qatar Open in February.

Tuesday’s win is a positive step toward preparing for Wimbledon for Bouchard after she lost in the first round of last week’s Ricoh Open.
