5 p.m.

Anchorage police have arrested a 34-year-old man on charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual assault and other counts following the discovery of a dead woman in his car following a vehicle crash.

Police say Benjamin Wilkins is charged in connection with the death of 30-year-old Jacqueline Goodwin. Online court records show no attorney listing for Goodwin.

Police say it was clear the woman died from injuries she sustained before the Monday night crash on Debarr Road near Alaska Regional Hospital. Police say the vehicle struck a power pole.

Goodwin was initially taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police say the crash caused the pole to collapse across Debarr Road. Eastbound and westbound lanes were closed for several hours because of downed power lines.

Police say the investigation continues, but they add they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the death.
