After a wobbly day of trading, U.S. stocks fell for the seventh time in eight days Monday as technology companies continued to slide. Industrial and high-dividend companies rose, and the market’s losses were limited compared to its plunge last week.
On Monday:
The S&P 500 index sank 16.34 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 2,750.79.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 89.44 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 25,250.55.
The Nasdaq composite shed 66.15 points, or 0.9 per cent, to 7,430.74.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller-company stocks gained 6.42 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 1,553.09.
For the year:
The S&P 500 is up 77.18 points, or 2.9 per cent.
The Dow is up 531.33 points, or 2.1 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 527.35 points, or 7.6 per cent.
The Russell 2000 is up 17.58 points, or 1.1 per cent.
