Police: Officer injured during pursuit of shooting suspect
DETROIT – A Detroit police sergeant is recovering after being wounded during the pursuit of a man sought in the weekend shooting of his own father.
Police Chief James Craig told reporters the officer was shot once in his right shoulder with a sawed-off shotgun.
Police spokeswoman Kenyetta Habron tells The Detroit News the suspect then attempted to hop a fence but was tackled by backup officers.
That shooting occurred around 11 p.m. Monday. On Sunday afternoon, a shotgun was used to shoot a 62-year-old man in the feet in his eastside home.
Twenty-one-year-old Marquise Cromer was arraigned Tuesday on assault with intent to murder charges in Sunday’s shooting. Court records, which don’t list an attorney, show a judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Bond was set at $750,000.
Cromer hasn’t been charged in the officer’s shooting.
