Road to Silver Star, voted worst in B.C., getting repaved

VERNON – The provincial government is going to spend almost $1.5 million dollars to upgrade more than 15 kilometres of Silver Star Road.

The road to Silver Star Mountain Resort was voted the worst in the province in B.C. Automobile Association's 2014 road survey and the repaving project was listed in the government’s 10-year transportation plan released this past March.

Now the province has announced the price tag and a schedule for the work.

The road will be repaved this summer from the Vernon municipal border to Silver Star Village, according to a media release. As well, about three kilometres of residential roads in the village will be repaved.

Okanagan Aggregates of Armstrong was awarded the contract and work is expected to be complete by Sept. 30.

When the road was voted the worst in B.C. back in June of 2014, Silver Star Mountain Resort operations manager Brad Baker told InfoNews.ca it wasn’t right a 'multi-million dollar resort was at the end of a crappy drive.'

Baker had long been calling for resurfacing and improvement, citing it as a safety issue for his guests and staff, and the residents of the village.
