Investigation underway into cause of Osoyoos condo complex fire

OSOYOOS – Fire investigators were on the scene of a blaze at an Osoyoos condominium complex today looking for the cause of the Friday afternoon fire.

Osoyoos firefighters were called to the blaze at the Sunshine Cove complex at 4231 Oleander Drive at about 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 1.

Fire chief Rick Jones says the fire started in a bottom of the two-storey complex.

“The fire burned up the outside and made it into the roof and spread,” Jones says.

He say they had 29 firefighters working the blaze with help from the Oliver Fire Department called as part of the mutual aid agreement.

Jones says four of the 10 units in the complex were gutted, with smoke and water damage to the rest.

He says it’s too early to say what caused the fire.
