KAMLOOPS – Mural projects and art alleys enhance public spaces and make areas more vibrant and desirable. This two-hour introductory workshop will be of interest both to artists who'd like to find out how to create murals and to businesses, organizations and property owners interested in having a mural painted at their location.
Our team of local experts will walk you through the process, from start to finish:
– Where to start: A City of Kamloops representative will introduce the City's Mural Application Form and process for approval, and outline the differences between murals, graffiti and signage.
– How a mural program can revitalize an area or public space: The KCBIA's Gay Pooler will discuss some of the steps that were taken to initiate the Downtown Kamloops Back Alley Art Program, including artist selection, consultation with business/owner, proposals and permits, funding, and more.
– Making it Happen: Vaughn Warren, an accomplished mural artist who specializes in airbrush designs, will cover more hands-on and practical elements of mural projects (design, mock-ups, painting, materials and finishing).
Tuesday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Old Courthouse Cultural Centre (Seymour Street and First Avenue)
All are welcome. The workshop is free for Kamloops Arts Council members; cost for non-members is $5. Pre-registration is required; please contact Jenn at admin@kamloopsarts.ca or call 250-372-7323.
