SASKATOON – A Saskatoon police officer is recovering at home after being struck by a passing vehicle while he was investigating a report of a stolen car.
The officer, identified as a 37-year-old man with 14 years’ police service in Saskatoon, had originally been described as having serious injuries but by Tuesday evening police said he had been treated and released from hospital.
Police got a call Tuesday afternoon about the theft of a vehicle that had been left running with the keys inside.
The officer spotted the stolen vehicle a short time later and as he approached, the suspect got out and fled.
Police spokeswoman Kelsie Fraser said the officer started to chase the suspect when he was struck by a passing vehicle.
She said the driver that hit the officer remained on scene, and will not face charges in the incident.
On Tuesday evening, police announced they had taken a 23-year-old man into custody in the stolen vehicle investigation.
