SUMMERLAND – Because of the high risk of person-caused fires, Giant’s Head Mountain Park Road is closed to vehicle traffic.
The closure is effective immediately due to dry vegetation along the roadside.
The fire danger rating is currently high but is expected to reach extreme in the next couple of days.
“We have moved to this closure of vehicular traffic in these extreme conditions as Giants Head Park is particularly vulnerable due to high use by residents and tourists alike,” Mayor Peter Waterman said in a release. “In addition, I would like to urge cigarette users to be extremely careful. It is common sense that this applies to all areas where there is a fire hazard.”
Residents and tourists are still welcome to walk or cycle up Giant’s Head Mountain.

The whole problem is some people don’t have common sense. They just don’t care and as long as we have people like that our dry forests will always be at risk.
