Halloween dog costume parade invites costumed pets to downtown Kamloops

Dogs dressed as witches, superheroes and other Halloween characters will take to downtown Kamloops this weekend for a parade that combines seasonal fun with a chance to support local businesses.

The Halloween Dog Costume Parade invites dog owners to dress up their pets and join a walk along Victoria Street on Saturday, October 31. Organized by Let’s Move Studio, the event is intended to bring dog lovers together for a light-hearted Halloween outing while encouraging people to spend time in the downtown area.

Participants are encouraged to get creative with their costumes, whether they choose something spooky, funny or imaginative. The parade will also feature costume prizes, with awards planned for the best-dressed dog, best-dressed pair featuring a handler and their pet, and best-dressed crew.

The event is about more than showing off costumes. Organizers are also planning a dog-friendly trick-or-treating experience, with participating downtown businesses invited to hand out treats to the costumed dogs as they pass by.

The route begins at Dairy Queen Downtown and follows Victoria Street between 8th Avenue and 1st Avenue before returning along the opposite side of the street. The walk will take place on sidewalks, with dogs required to remain on leash alongside their handlers. Organizers are asking that only social, well-behaved dogs attend so the parade remains comfortable and safe for participants, pets and other pedestrians.

Events like this can offer residents a way to celebrate Halloween while spending time with other members of the community. For downtown businesses, the parade also creates an opportunity to welcome visitors and take part in a neighbourhood activity beyond the usual shopping experience.

The parade is scheduled to begin gathering at 12:45 pm on Saturday, October 31, at Dairy Queen Downtown, 811 Victoria St. The walk is expected to run from 1 pm to 2 pm. No registration or RSVP is required, and all social, leashed dogs are welcome.
