RV destroyed by fire in Bear Creek Provincial Park

WEST KELOWNA – Fire crews fought a dramatic blaze in Bear Creek Provincial Park last night as flames from a burning RV spread into the trees.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue assistant fire chief Brent Watson says firefighters were called at about 9:45 p.m., Oct. 11, to a RV fire within the southern boundary of the park.

“On arrival, crews found the RV fully involved, with fire extension into the surrounding trees,” Watson says in a media release. “Venting propane tanks caused the fire to flare up dramatically on several occasions, making the fire visible from downtown Kelowna.”

Crews stopped the fire from spreading into the provincial park, although the RV was a total loss, he says.

Westside Road was closed for over an hour while firefighters put out the blaze.

No one was hurt and no word on what caused the blaze.
