Raptors coach Dwane Casey angry about lack of fouls called in Toronto’s favour

TORONTO – Despite a victory, Raptors coach Dwane Casey was left shaking his head at the officiating Saturday night.

Toronto beat the Cavaliers 99-84 to cut Cleveland’s lead in the Eastern Conference final to 2-1 — despite what Casey said was a lack of “consistency” in the calls.

The Cavs shot 16 free throws to Toronto’s 13, and Casey was particularly upset by the perceived fouls on Bismack Biyombo that went ignored.

“He’s getting fouled so much. He’s not getting the calls. We shoot zero free throws in the fourth quarter. Zero,” Casey said in his post-game news conference.

“There’s got to be some consistency. I’ve been in this league a long time, in college basketball a long time, but there’s got to be some consistency. The same foul on one end has got to be a foul on the other. I don’t know if he’s getting hit because of how physical and tough he is, but he’s getting cracked.”

In Game 1 of the series, DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry shot zero free throws combined — the first time that had happened in the 298 games they’d played together.

Casey, who likely faces a fine from the NBA for his comments, said both teams are playing physical.

“Just be consistent with the calls,” Casey said. “The same call on one end has got to be the same call on the other end.”
