Penticton city council approves 12-story residential tower
PENTICTON – A new development in the south end of Penticton received the go-ahead earlier this week after receiving approval of a development permit from Penticton city council.
City of Penticton director of development services Jules Hall told council the property at 3388 Skaha Lake Rd. came before council at a meeting in August to request a zoning amendment to allow comprehensive development of the property.
The new zoning will allow a residential component to be built complementary to a retirement home, a commercial block, a 50-unit town home project and a future hotel built on the site.
Council has approved a a development permit for the first phase of the residential development, which will consist of a 12-storey, 75-unit residential tower with garden suites on the first floor.
Coun. Judy Sentes praised the development, saying the proposal would add valuable units to the city’s housing stock.
“It’s quite exciting to drive around and see more construction in the city, and this developer has a good reputation,” Mayor Andrew Jakubeit said as council moved to allow the permit to be issued.
Coun. Tarik Sayeed was sole objector to the motion, expressing concerns over parking issues with the development.

Probably hope to attract retirees from elsewhere to help boost the economy. It would be surprising if every unit bought had owners with only one car! May be good for taxis and bus ridership? Strange time to be reducing park space in Skaha area!
