Three suspects arrested allegedly playing with a fake gun near a stolen car

KELOWNA – A report that three people were playing with a gun in a parking lot brought RCMP to the Capital News Centre Thursday night.

The gun turned out to be fake, but watch commander Sgt. Brad Swecera says police didn't know that until they were arrested. When they first arrived, the individuals were not present but police found a parked vehicle that had been reported stolen. Swecera says the officers saw three people approach the stolen car and, with guns drawn, ordered them to surrender.

One of the men and the woman complied but the third man fled into Boomers Restaurant where he was arrested.

"It wasn’t a real gun," Swecera says. "It was a replice or a BB gun that ended up being the cause for concern."

All three, who are known to police, were arrested and released while the investigation continues.
