Christmas season begins in Penticton with Santa Claus Parade and Light Up
PENTICTON – A raw south wind and the threat of rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of hundreds of Pentictonites who braved cool conditions Saturday afternoon to view the Santa Claus parade.
The 19th edition of the parade went north on Main Street from White Avenue, terminating at Gyro Park.
Even though temperatures were above freezing, a strong wind from the south made temperatures feel much cooler than they were.
“This street acts like a wind tunnel,” parade participant and Search and Rescue volunteer Kelvin Hall said.
Penticton city councillors were present during the parade, handing out seasonal treats to the many children bundled up along the curb.
Later in the afternoon, a crowd of approximately 40 hardy individuals, including Mayor Jakubeit, and Couns. Judy Sentes and Andre Martin, showed up at Gyro Park to witness the light up of the city’s Christmas tree, located just north of city hall.
