No charges for Vancouver police officer involved in crash with motorcyclist

VICTORIA – No charges will be laid against a Vancouver police officer involved in a crash with a motorcyclist last August.

The man on the motorcycle broke his arm when his bike ran into the side of the police car.

A statement on the crash says the officer’s marked cruiser turned left in front of the motorcycle as it travelled in the opposite direction.

The statement said there was conflicting evidence about the status of the traffic light and the speed the motorcyclist was travelling.

B.C.’s police watchdog investigated and determined that the officer may have committed an offence, but it didn’t make a recommendation on whether charges should be approved.

The Criminal Justice Branch has now decided that, based on the available evidence, there isn’t a substantial likelihood that the officer would be convicted.
