Expect a chilly start to the new year in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – Temperatures are set to dip below normal this New Year’s Day long weekend but the good news is it looks like it will warm up again early next week.
Environment Canada is calling for a high of just -6 Celsius to -8 C today, Dec. 31 through Saturday before dropping even more to -11 C on Sunday. Overnight lows will be warmest tonight, with a low of just -9 C expected. Lows of -11 C to -13 C are expected through the rest of the weekend.
Seasonal normal temperatures range from a high of -1 C to a low of -8 C.
The skies will be mainly cloudy today with a chance of flurries followed by a mix of sun and cloud the rest of the weekend.
If hitting the open road is part of your plan this weekend expect compact snow and slippery sections on Interior highways, along with a chance of flurries, while those heading into the backcountry can expect a low to moderate risk of avalanche for the next few days, according to Avalanche Canada.
