Actor Trejo speaks up for worried teens after school fight

LOS ANGELES – Actor Danny Trejo, famous for his tough-guy roles, has voiced support for concerned students whose classmates took part in a huge brawl at a Los Angeles high school.

Trejo, who lives in the area, encouraged Sylmar High School administrators at a meeting Wednesday to listen to students’ worries about their safety and suggestions for a more peaceful campus.

KNBC-TV reports that video of the Monday fight that spread online shows some 40 students involved. It took a dozen officers to break it up.

Some students told the Los Angeles Times that the brawl involved tensions between black and Latino students and gangs that flared up at the previous weekend’s prom. Other students said the racial element was overblown.

Trejo is known for his parts in the “Machete” films and “From Dusk till Dawn.”
