The Latest: Storm could return with snow in Sierra Nevada

TRUCKEE, Calif. – The Latest on storms that hit Northern California (all times local):

8:40 a.m.

Traffic is flowing again on a Sierra Nevada freeway that was snarled by accidents after Northern California thunderstorms dumped up to 13 inches of snow.

Snow halted traffic on Interstate 80 near Donner Summit for hours Friday night, delayed arriving flights at San Francisco’s airport and hit the Sacramento area with lightning, gusty winds and dime-sized hail.

The storms are mostly gone Saturday morning, but National Weather Service forecaster Brooke Bingaman says they could return in the afternoon, bringing another few inches of snow to the Sierra Nevada and other higher elevations. She warns people driving mountain routes to be prepared.
